Eddie V. Claims Hurricane Katrinia Caused By Legalization of Homosexual Marriage

Saw then (at mukhang hihirit pa ng isa) presidential hopeful, Eddie V. on TV early this morning. The topic - well i forgot the topic. Same, same; chapter ---, verse ---, nothing important. Anyway. Eddie V. claims that Hurricane Katrina was "God's" way of punishing human kind (with the exception of Chuck Norris and Dubia) for allowing our confused (read: homosexual) brothers and sisters to marry each other.

Our benevolent and enlightened leader even said that like God, he also loves the sinners. And it's their sin that he condemns. (cue: chants of "We're not worthy, we're not worthy")

Yep, dear brothers and sisters of the True And Only Viable Faith, being true to your sexual preference is a crime. Clearly, we gotta repress to impress the Big Guy upstairs.

While we're at it...
Oops, wag mag-panic. "Can be" lang naman daw.

The weapon of criticism cannot, of course, replace criticism of the weapon, material force must be overthrown by material force; but theory also becomes a material force as soon as it has gripped the masses. Theory is capable of gripping the masses as soon as it demonstrates ad hominem, and it demonstrates ad hominem as soon as it becomes radical. To be radical is to grasp the root of the matter. But, for man, the root is man himself.

To Sleep Less And Dream More

Lymphatic cancer wasn't able to cull Marquez from writing this beautiful, albeit, sad "farewell letter." Yet another reason to lose (willfully, of course,) sleep. Don't die on us just yet, Gabo. You still have to live to tell the tales.

Here's the letter:

If for a moment God were to forget that I am a rag doll and granted me a piece of life, I probably wouldn't say everything that I think; rather, I would think about everything that I say.

I would value things, not for their worth but for what they mean. I would sleep less, dream more, understanding that for each minute we close our eyes, we lose sixty seconds of light.

I would walk when others hold back, I would wake when others sleep, I would listen when others talk.

And how I would enjoy a good chocolate ice cream!

If God were to give me a piece of life, I would dress simply, throw myself face first into the sun, baring not only my body but also my soul.

My God, if I had a heart, I would write my hate on ice, and wait for the sun to show. Over the stars I would paint with a Van Gogh dream a Benedetti poem, and a Serrat song would be the serenade I'd offer to the moon.

I would water roses with my tears, to feel the pain of their thorns and the red kiss of their petals... My God, if I had a piece of life... I wouldn't let a single day pass without telling the people I love that I love them.

I would convince each woman and each man that they are my favorites, and I would live in love with love.

I would show men how very wrong they are to think that they cease to be in love when they grow old, not knowing that they grow old when they cease to be in love!

To a child I shall give wings, but I shall let him learn to fly on his own. I would teach the old that death does not come with old age, but with forgetting.

So much have I learned from you, oh men ... I have learned that everyone wants to live at the top of the mountain, without knowing that real happiness is in how it is scaled.

I have learned that when a newborn child first squeezes his father's finger in his tiny fist, he has him trapped forever.

I have learned that a man has the right to look down on another only when he has to help the other get to his feet.

From you I have learned so many things, but in truth they won't be of much use, for when I keep them within this suitcase, unhappily shall I be dying.

Dancing with the Green Fairy

There are bars in Baguio that offer a shot at the green fairy (not of lore), although i haven't tried one myself (honest).
(Am wondering the feel after downing a shot.)

Where's Kuya Kim when you need him?!

[click image to marvel at (possibly for the last time) a slice of Kanlaon's beauty]

An enviro-wacko friend (who's not aware of this blog) asked me to help popularize the Mt. Kanlaon issue. [i suggested she approach Kuya Kim for a spot in Matanglawin (read as pronounced on television), she replied, "leche!" Milk?]

Apparently, while our eyes and ears were tuned in to the GSIS-Meralco-lagay-Supreme-Court fiasco, the Lopezes were backhanding Kanlaon. As of late, 1000 trees were felled.

Am not much of an enviromentalist (just mental), but my friend's description of Kanlaon's Majesty as comparable to "dyesebel's world" got me flash writing. Please take some minute off your time and read the update here.

If you have any suggestions please do comment on her post. [Just don't mention this blog.]

These are the official Olympics mascots. Aren't they the cutest? (spell merchandiseseseses?)

Now here's the other side of the wall.
Can't imagine how they managed to produce such lovable characters with all the human rights violation happening within and without the country.

Oh.

I know there's a rule of three, but could we make an exception here?

The fourth "Mummy" installment should read: The Mummies, return them. Scrupulous collectors (and locales, as well) have been raiding Sagada's hanging coffins since I don't know when. Tourist guides also have their share of bastardization as well. A cave I went to had some coffins brought down, obviously to entice tourists to the site. (yep, never mind the stray dogs who are instinctively attracted to meat, however old, let's cash in on tourism and ruin our heritage)

These are the times am tempted to abandon dialectical materialism and wish that curses do work. (Can't think of an appropriate curse, though)

Beg Bikes!

Am thinking of saving up for a motorcycle. Not a scooter, but a really big, bad, bike. And then I'll ask D to go cross-region with me, a-la Motorcycle Diaries.

I wonder what model could handle Sagada's road.

Next agenda, where to buy a leather jacket?

BAWAL ANG MGA MAHIHIRAP DITO!

And "Edukasyon para sa lahat hindi lang sa mayayaman" greeted UP hopefuls today as they took UPCAT. (The former statement probably referring to UP's tuition and other fee increase.)

Claimed by Pambansang Grupo ng mga Mural na Artevista (ironically acronymed PGMA), the graffiti hinted of the situation of UP, and education at large. UP's admin said that if found out, members of PGMA could face suspension. (Why not suspend PGMA, instead?). Read more here.

Of Bus Rides And Other Things

Saw the movie Speed (on the bus I took on my way to work today).

***

Imagine the same scenario happening here in the Philippines. With the kind of traffic we have, everyone on the bus would have died.

***

Then again, sophistication isn't one of our strong points. The bomber would have probably detonated the bomb immediately.

***

I used to hate bus/jeep seat hoggers. And then I read Marquez' Love in the Time of Cholera.

The work tells of men taking pride in their big balls (which is actually scrotal hernia at work). The bigger the rapture, the better, as size is connected to masculinity.

The condition leads them to spread their legs wide enough to accommodate the "masculine honor" that they have. Of course it's painful. But hey, no pain, no gain, right?

***

Am now aware of the cross they bear. May the good Creator reward their benevolence. Am still not a fan of masculine honor, though.

***

I just don't know about women who sit (inside jeeps) like they're on horseback, taking up more space than required. (Must be demure thing to do.)

Thinking Differently

Behold! The iThink! Here are the supposed features:

• Size:

1.5 x 1.5 x .5 inches

• Symbiosis™ Neural Interface:
Direct brain-computer link means your mind and computer are one!

• Intel Fusion™ Quantum Processing:
Uses the power of the atom to instantly compute at the speed of thought.

• Holographic Data Storage:
The iThink’s tiny internal holochip has a staggering individual capacity of over 666 Yottabytes (1000^8), for seemingly infinite augmented memory

• Intra-neural Communication:
Mentally allow or block any kind of signal you want to send or recieve instantly over the wireless iThink global network

• Perceptual Immersion:
Images, sound, & other data are projected virtually into your sensory fields by directly connecting into your brain’s activity

• Integrated GPS and Google Earth:
Receive directions and location information anywhere on the planet, and the ability to be located in case of an emergency

This is some scary shit. I wouldn't want one on me for all the bytes in the world. (Most of our officials could use one, though. )

side note: I remember the urban legend about credit cards embedded into the owner's wrist. Cashless shopping at its finest, they say. Kris Aquino supposedly got one.

Cashless shopping? I'm almost-always cashless, so i guess i've been into that thing a long time ago.
